Cake competition 24/25 ended

It seemed like 100 years ago that I was booted out of this year’s cake competition in the first round. There seemed to have been a bit of a lull in the organisation. When, quite recently, things started happening again, one of the competitors had already accepted a permanent job elsewhere. Luckily, she is still an honorary fellow, so she still has ties with us, and was still willing to bake.

We had to riveting semifinals. And then the final, between our relatively new colleague Katie, and Sophie, the lady who was already working elsewhere.

The cakes were amazing! And the votes were counted soon afterwards. It turned out that Sophie had won. That is a bit unfortunate; traditionally, if you win this year, you have to organise next year's competition. We can't ask that of someone who works elsewhere. It would have been better if Katie would have one. But I accidentally also voted for Sophie's cake. We didn't know who had made what.

Winner Sophie (and John)

Runner-up Katie

Sophie now gets to choose what happens with the money cake testers have put in over the year. We collected £450. She thought she might give it to Mountain Rescue. A worthy course!

So that's it for this year. I don't know if Katie will now volunteer to organise the next iteration. I will be in it again. Let's see if I can last longer than the first round this time. Maybe I can even equal my greatest success when I went out in the semi-final!
