Appreciation of a student

I received an email from one of the students who had done a dissertation with me last year. I had said in the feedback I had provided, that she hadn't noticed that she had misinterpreted results by one of the sources she had used, and that therefore a calculation she had performed had yielded unrealistic values. She hadn't really picked up on that until now, but she is now doing a Master’s, and she wanted to know what had gone wrong. Probably to avoid similar things in the future. And I am always happy if students actually pay attention to feedback, so I was quite willing to elaborate on that.

It didn't take long to show her where the misinterpretation had occurred. But the meeting was memorable anyway. She had brought me a little gift as thanks for my support the previous year! That was so sweet. It was a packet of coffee and one of tea, and a mug that says "strong women make waves”. I was really chuffed! I must have been doing something right last year...
