Only in England

Bicycles are things you commute with. You keep them in a shed or something like that, take them to work, and after work you take them back. That's it. And preferably you keep them as light as possible.
Going to friends or shops or sports facilities or whatnot is something you do on foot, by car or by cab. That's how it works. Right?

It's the only explanation form something truly absurd I noticed on campus. There's a few staple-shaped bicycle stands opposite the building that contains my home the lab. And I noticed a structure screwed into the wall behind it. Behold and shiver!

Only the British could come up with something like that. Absurd! But I assume Brits find it normal...
